Enigmail dont ask me anymore for my Passphrase

Postby safran » 10th Jan 2009 08:36

Hello,
Maybe 4 month ago, i made a keypair for 3 of my E-Mail adress in Thunderbird portable under windows. I made them with a passphrase. Everything works fine there.
But now, I exported the keys to Thunderbird on another OS, Linux.
There I have Thunderbird 2.0.0.19, Enigmail 0.95.0 and gpg 1.4.9
After I imported the key (pub and secret) there, it dont ask me for the passphrase.
How is this possible?
What sense make the passphrase when the check is not forced?

I thought passphrase is security so s.o. who use my pc cannot send signed or crypted mails from my account, or someone who stole my whole thunderbird and key folder cannot send without the passphrase.

Even I try to force it it never ask me for the passphrase.
S.o. know why this problem is there?

Thanks ,
rafael

Hi rafael,
which Linux version, and which enigmail version (exactly) do you use? If really enigmail 0.95.0, you should consider upgrade to 0.95.7.
BTW, you can send encrypted mail without entering your passphrase. It's only needed for signing end decrypting.
Are "use agent" and "never ask for passphrase" unchecked in the preferences?

hi,
thanks for your answer.
I updated to v. 0.95.7.
My distri is an up to date version of Ubuntu Intrepid 32bit.
It never asks me for the passphrase, nor i sign, nor i encrypt.
Yes use agent and never ask for passphrase are both uncheck.

When i go to change passphrase, it dont ask me my old one, but i can immidiatly enter a new one, but it dont ask me this one when sending.

Is this a bug?
At all i dont understand why there is a checkfolder "never ask for passphrase". Why are there passphrase when there is this disable-
option.
