Can't install Enigmail for official Seamonkey release

Postby nfowar » 12th Mar 2007 21:27

Hi,

I've tried to install Enigmail for the latest official Seamonkey Release, but I can't get it to work. I always get the same "Enigmail Service not availabe" error when I try to set Enigmail's preferences or use the key management. My operating system is Linux (Fedora Core 6 on i386).

Here's what I've done:

1. Uninstalled the Seamonkey version that comes with Fedora Core (doesnt' work with Enigmail, same error).
2. Downloaded and installed the official Seamonkey 1.1.1 Release (english) from http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/
3. Renamed my old Seamonkey profile (~/.mozilla) to make sure it doesn't get in the way
4. Installed enigmail-0.94.3-sm11-win+lin+mac.xpi as root from the enigmail home page
5. Restarted Seamonkey

I've also tried these steps with Seamonkey 1.1, and as non-root (by installing Seamonkey under my home directory), to no avail.

Is there anything else that I should try? I remember the last time I used enigmail it worked perfectly with the official Mozilla release.

Any ideas?

Have You tried Installing the Nightly Build of Enigmail? I'm using a M$ box but have experienced absolutely No Problems with the Nightly's.

Hi John,
yes I tried the nightly build yesterday, but it caused Seamonkey to segfault when I opened the OpenPGP menu. :(

Did you restart Seamonkey first as root?

Yes, I did that. Right now I have installed Seamonkey under my user account in my home directory, to rule out any permission problems.
Btw, I misread the error message I get, its about the Enigmime service, not the Engimail service.

I also enabled loggin in Enigmail, but it doesn't say anything about why the serivce fails, either:

I am also seeing the same problem with SeaMonkey 1.1.1 and Enigmail 0.94.3, GnuPG 1.4.7 on Windows XP (32bit).

I have tried various options according to the enigmail troubleshooting guide and no effect.

I will try to downgrade the options to see if I can recover it.

Just to update.

Downgrading enigmail to 0.94.2 by first uninstalling 0.94.3 and then installing 0.94.2, solved my problem.

OK, I found out that the package I created for Seamonkey 1.1 was incorrect. I have created a new package that should now work OK:
