Unable able to locate program

Postby thefirstknight » 13th Oct 2006 06:30

I entered /usr/local/bin/gpg as the GnuPG executable path but when i send an email, a message states that the above cannot be found. Can someone please resolve my problem. I am currently running enigmail 0.94.1.

We cannot resolve your problem for you. To do so would require physical or remote access to your machine. We can only assist in you resolving the problem based on the information that you provide; we're not omniscient.

Since it's [b]not operating[\b] it might be more accurate to say that you have Enigmail 0.94.1 [i]installed[\i]. That absent any other required information doesn't tell us very much (sort of like telling the colour of your CPU case.. OK, a bit more useful), only that you most likely installed Enigmail from the main install page, maybe just maybe.

Would you mind providing some additional useful details, such as the OS, mail client, and GnuPG versions?

If you are running Linux, was your version of Thunderbird or Seamonkey packaged by the distro provider or was it downloaded from Mozilla.org?

On the chance that you are running a {Li|U}nix system, what does the command 'which gpg' return?

Thunderbird 1.5.x, right?

If you installed GnuPG, either of the following should work for the GnuPG executable path:

C:\Program Files\Gnu\GnuPG\gpg.exe or

C:\Progra~1\Gnu\GnuPG\gpg.exe

If installed using the installer, the default location is the one above.

You may also check the version by opening a command prompt window (Start --> Run --> cmd.exe) and entering the command 'gpg --version' (without the ' ' marks). This assumes that GnuPG's directory has been added to the PATH environment variable (covered below)

Step-by-step GnuPG install and configure instructions for Windows are at http://enigmail.mozdev.org/gpgconf.html

/usr/local/bin/gpg didn't work because that is a POSIX-style path as used on Linux and Unix systems.

Progra~1 is an abbreviation for 'Program Files'. It's the 8.3 name format for compatibility with older applications.

It looks as if GnuPG is not installed. This is a prerequisite.

Start by downloading and installing GnuPG.

Step-by-step GnuPG install and configure instructions for Windows are at http://enigmail.mozdev.org/gpgconf.html
